The Tissot Story

For more than 150 years, Tissot has embodied the innovation and tradition of Swiss watch-making. Based in the Neuchâtel area of the Jura Mountains, in Le Locle, Switzerland, Charles-Félicien Tissot and his son Charles-Emile formulated the watch making company Tissot in 1853. Whether in the technology of it is movements, in the exploration for particular materials or in the very functions of the watch itself, Tissot’s engineers and watchmakers have formulated pioneering timepieces over the years.

Some of Tissot’s triumphs over the years include the the Idea 2001 (the world’s basi plastic watch) freed in 1971, the Rock watch (which set the timepiece’s motion in a stone case made from Swiss Alps granite) in 1985, and the Wood watch from 1988 (with a totally wooden case). Tissot uses the best movements (from ETA SA Manufacture Horlogère Suisse), the most eminent quality materials (316L steel, 18K gold, titanium) and scratch-proof glasses (sapphire crystal–at least 2500 Vickers).

The company has been involved with high profile sports events since 1974 when they sponsored a racing car in the 24 Hours of Le Mans, France. Since then Tissot’s timepieces have been chosen as official timekeepers for world championships in cycling, motorcycling, fencing and ice hockey. And Tissot is presently the the official watch and timekeeper of NASCAR.

Tissot timepieces have been worn by a bevy of celebrities over the years–including Grace Kelly, Elvis Presley and Nelson Mandela–and James Stewart’s reputation L.B. 5Beautiful watch, can’t go wrong!
By E. Bleimehl
I purchased this watch yesterday at a local store for full price. This is an astounding watch for the money. The back is amazingly detailed, which is not shown in the pictures here. With the price on here, it makes this watch even better for the money. Would commend for any individual looking for a nice entry-level automatic swiss time piece. You can’t find anything better for the money.

3Great, except crown diameter is too big
By Smaug
I purchased one of these various years ago; it seemed to have all the right things.

PROS:
- The bracelet is very comfortable, and is made of solid stainless steel links.
- The silver colored hands, roman numerals, and markers on the black face look super-classy
- The display back is likewise actually cool to look at
- Excellent value, for well beneath a thousand bucks, you get a swiss ETA movement, sapphire crystal and a actually graceful overall design.

CONS:
The crown is not the screw-down type. This is not a problem in itself, but it is also such a big diameter that, for me, at least, intermediate wrist motion pulls the crown out, which stops the watch. The time was off just with regards to each time I looked at it. I had to re-sell it. My wrist is 6-3/4″ in circumfrence. No one else seems to have this problem, so perchance it is my anatomy.

Since the other reviews are all excellent, I would buy one and wear it each day for at least a couple of your most active weeks. See if you have a problem with the crown pulling out just from wearing it. If so, return it. If not, count your blessings! I in truth wish I could have held this without having to send it to a watchmaker just to replace the overly huge crown.

5Beautiful Watch
By Brent Spiller
This is my original “High End” watch. I decisive to go with a Swiss Automatic and I’m very glad that I chose this Tissot. I debated back and forth among this one and the identical watch with the “Power Reserve” indicator which was going for around $900 at the time of this writing. I decisive that it wasn’t worth the further and added $500 to get the model with the indicator and in the long run chose this one. It’s a BEAUTIFUL watch with a lightweight, secure, stainless steel band and the detail on the dial is terrific. I’ve had it for over a week now and it doesn’t appear to have lost even a second of time. My only fear when I ordered it was that the dial may be too big at just underneath 40mm, but it fits my wrist just fine. For reference, I’m intermediate height and build, 5’11″ 190lb, so I don’t think it would be a problem for any person over 160-170lb or so…
