5Just as I imagined … perfect!
By Avi Z. Fertig
My uncle had been wearing the Seiko SKX007 (although his may be a dissimilar model number) since the early 80s. I was a little kid back then and I may not have consciously noticed his watch, But his watch will have to have left a heap of impact, because I’ve always been partial to divers watches, and presently own several. These include two quartz Bulovas, one quartz Swatch, and most not long ago an automatic Omega Seamaster Professional (the James Bond model). The Bulovas were OK, the Swatch is a piece of garbage, and the Omega is just a delight to own.

And yet, none of these ever seemed to match my mind’s idealized effigy of what a divers watch must be.

A short time after buying the Omega, I came throughout the Seiko on a heap of watch aficionado website. I recognized it as the watch my uncle has worn all these years and was astonished to realize that this very watch was the effigy versus which I judged all other diver watches. I wanted it badly. But having just expended a bundle on a watch I couldn’t warrant the purchase.

Until the end of December. Out of nowhere, my not-a-year-old Omega started profiting close to an hour a day!! A bizarre circumstance followed by an prompt deliverance to the local Omega authorized dealer. It would take closely a month until my watch was repaired and returned.

What’s a guy to do? I knew …. I went to Amazon and purchased the Seiko I always wanted. An automatic and the less pricey model; the pricier model has square number markers, not circles.

Always the pessimist, I prepared myself for disappointment. I hadn’t seen my uncle’s watch for a great deal of time and just expected a let down of a lot of sort. I was concerned the face would just look radically dissimilar from what I hoped for, and I’d be stuck with a watch I didn’t want to wear. And in spite of my fears, I kept heading to the window all morning on the day the watch was scheduled to arrive.

Finally, the UPS truck pulled up in front of my house and sure enough, he was keeping my new “replacement” watch. I opened the box and out came the watch I always wanted — looking and sentiment incisively as I had wished.

Now I steadily alternate amidst my $2000 Omega and my $200 Seiko. It keeps perfective time! It is aesthetically fantastic! And it just feels great on my wrist! It is big, and the rubber band is not elegant. But ‘not elegant’ in the sense that it looks out of place when I wear it with a suit. But in any other situation, it looks just right.

Here are a good deal of observations: The face is beautiful. The band is thick and rugged, the antithesis of cheap or flimsy. The luminescence stays luminescent for hours into the dark. The automatic second hand sweep is graceful and solid. The case is unbrushed steel, significant in weight, and heavy-duty like industrial strength machinery. The top of the lugs are brushed steel and the contrast only enhances the watch’s natural good looks. The screw-down crown is BIG and has deep grooves, which makes it easy to screw and unscrew, not to mention set.

The bezel is my favored feature because the grooves on the side are designed for severe use. If you want to turn that unidirectional bezel, be assured — it will not slip. The watch is so solid that you may only conclude that traditionalisti opinion, at least an individual still makes it like they applied to.

For balance, I’ll mention the one and only aspect of the watch that I would prefer were different. You cannot stop the second hand. Even as you’re setting the time, the second hand proceeds to move, making it inconceivable to utterly synchronize the watch with an atomic clock. Then again, hopefully not every one is like me, and has to have a utterly synchronized watch.

To conclude, evidently I highly, highly commend the Seiko SKX007. Keep in mind: if hard-core diver watches are NOT your thing, you may speedily realize that this watch is way too much watch to handle. But if you’re a diver watch lover like me — even if, like me, you’ve never worn a wet suit in your life — this watch is as much the real deal as you’ll ever get.

5Great Watch
By Dano
This is a heavy, well made watch that I wear all the time. I never have to set it because it is wholly automatic.I liked the Seiko SKX007 model so well that I purchased another diving watch from Seiko, the SKX009 model. I may depend on these watches because I work outside in all types of weather. Also, the bands are made of heavy responsibility rubber. A real tough watch. I purchased my original Seiko in 1969. It was an automatic that ran for 23 YEARS, before it stopped. Took it to a Seiko dealer, who fixed it and it is still running today.

5I CAN’T HELP BUT LOVE IT.
By S. Swingler
Well, contrary to each other review I’ve read of this watch, mine loses time and always has done. It loses in regards to a 30 seconds to a minute each day. That bothers me. I thought I’d purchased a duff one until I started reading all the reviews, it seems automatic motion watches are a bit elastic in terms of time keeping. The watch is solid and heavy and the glass is VERY scratch resistant. Luminosity is very good. I like the fact that I may take this watch anyplace in the world and never have the battery fail on me. I’ll live with the poor time keeping. I love it and wear it 24hrs a day, ok I take it off to have a bath. A brilliant watch but don’t suppose it to keep perfective time. A watch more suitable to the Mediterranean mindset than that of say Germany or Switzerland!!!
UPDATE:- It’s come to my attention that one may adjust the gain/loss of the motion by adjusting the regulator, accessible by removing the back of the watch. I have done this to mine and it now keeps perfective time. Here are a couple of links to make things clearer:-
[...]l
[...]This second link is for a dissimilar watch but the movement, the 7S26 is the same for the skx007. Since adjusting mine I cannot fault the watch in any way – I think it’s the best watch in the world and I love it!!
