Orient Watch was formally conventional in July 13th, 1950 in Tokyo. However, the history of Orient Watch actually dates back to 1901, when Shogoro Yoshida, the founder of Orient, opened a wholesale watch store in Ueno, Japan. Orient Watch has always focalized on mechanical watches, principally automatic watches with it is own in-house automatic movements Orient was once portion of the “Big Three” watch companies in Japan along with Citizen and Seiko. In the 70s, when mechanical watch companies faced hardship from the mass introduction of inexpensive quartz watches, Citizen and Seiko took the path of mass formulating quartz watches, Orient stuck with what it did best, making mechanical watches. Today, Seiko owns a controlling stake in Orient. Orient, however, proceeds to make it is own mechanical movements. For it is quartz models, it uses Seiko’s quartz movements. What sets Orient apart from other watch companies is genuinely the fact that Orient has always been focusing on making it is mechanical movements better and more reliable. It is strange today to find a watch company that makes it is own motion merchandising watches at prices offered by Orient. Most of the watch companies that do make in-house movements are big name specialized watch companies such as Patek Philippe whose watches ranges from tens of thousands of dollars to hundreds of thousands of dollars. To find a specialized watch company that uses in-house movements syndication it is watches at prices that are lowcost to most people is veritably refreshing.

5Should cost much more
By Roger Bergman
Very accurate(5 seconds or better per day, maybe lucky), Looks similar to the Tissot automatic pr50 but with a power reserve and a for less band. I do not know how orient makes an automatic with powere reserve at this price. Cannot hack or manually wind but with a few shaKes, winds up to 50%. Note, on a watchwinder you will need one that is vertical, not the winders that are horizontal (I have two Orient watches and they will not wind on a horizontally positioned winder).
Nice watch to have in a collection due to power reserve
