The Casio StoryWith the launch of it is primary watch in November 1974, Casio entered the wristwatch market at a time when the watch industry had just came upon digital technology. As a company with cutting-edge electronic engineering devised for pocket calculators, Casio entered this field convinced that it could develop timepieces that would lead the market.

In devising it is own wristwatches Casio begun with the basic question, “”What is a wristwatch?”" Rather than plainly making a digital version of the traditionalisti mechanical watch, we thought that the idealisti wristwatch will have to be something that shows all facets of time in a consistent way. Based on this, Casio was capable to invent a watch that displayed the precise time including the second, minute, hour, day, and month — not to mention a.m. or p.m., and the day of the week. It was the firstborn watch in the world with a digital automatic calendar function that eradicated the need to reset the calendar due the variation in month length. Rather than using a traditionalisti watch face and hands, a digital liquid crystal display was adopted to better show all the information. This culminated in the 1974 launch of the CASIOTRON, the world’s firstborn digital watch with automatic calendar. The CASIOTRON won acclaim as a groundbreaking product that represented a finish departure from the conventional wristwatch.

Casio transformed the conception of the watch — from a mere timepiece to an selective information device for the wrist — and undertook product planning based on this modern idea. We devised not only time functions such as global time zone watches, but also other radical new functions using Casio’s own digital technology, including calculator and dictionary functions, as well as a phonebook feature based on memory technology, and even a thermometer function using a built-in sensor. The memory-function watches became our DATA BANK product series, while the sensor watches invented into two distinguishable Casio product lines of today: the Pathfinder series displaying altitude, atmospheric pressure, and compass readings.

In 1983, Casio launched the shock-resistant G-SHOCK watch. This product shattered the notion that a watch is a fragile piece of jewelry that needs to be handled with care, and was the result of Casio engineers taking on the challenge of creating the world’s toughest watch. Using a triple-protection design for the parts, module, and case, the G-SHOCK offered a radical new type of watch that was unaffected by strong impacts or shaking. Its practicality was without delay recognized, and it is distinguishable look, which embodied it is functionality, became wildly popular, resulting in explosive sales in the early 1990s. The G-SHOCK soon adopted respective new sensors, solar-powered radio-controlled technology (described below), and new materials for even better durability. By always employing the latest technology, and continuing to transcend traditionalisti thinking when it comes to the watch, the G-SHOCK brand has become Casio’s flagship timepiece product.

Today, Casio is focusing it is attempts on solar-powered radio-controlled watches: the built-in solar battery does away with the aggravation of replacing batteries, and the radio-controlled function means users never have to reset the time. In particular, the radio-controlled function represents a revolution in time-keeping engineering science similar to the affect formulated when mechanical watches gave way to quartz technology. Through the further development of high radio-wave sensitivity, miniaturization, and bettered energy efficiency, Casio proceeds to construct a whole range of radio-controlled models.

5Was issued this watch before leaving for Iraq…
By armybeef68
Everybody in the battalion was issued this watch before we shipped out for Iraq back in 2005, five years ago today actually, and the battery at last just passed away last night, WOW!…This thing lasted through an entire tour in Iraq, it made it through all the blood, sweat and tears and it just kept going. GREAT WATCH!

4Great watch, but. . .
By D. Eaton
I’m a building contractor who’s been wearing G-shocks since 1986. I’ve in all likelihood gone through five of them. With the earlier models I was always having to replace the watch band because I brutalized them so badly on the jobsite. The most recent one I purchased was the DW9052. Good watch and the band lasted very well, but the battery is starting to go so I’ve ordered a new Gulfman. The problem with the DW9052 watch is that the battery is only rated for two years. Granted, I got almost four years out of it, but I’m buying the Gulfman this time because it has a battery that is ranked for seven years. Of course, it costs twice as much, which proves you get what you recompense for. (Never remunerate to have a battery substituted in a G-shock, since they can’t guarantee it will stay waterproof after they open the watchcase.)

G-shocks in general are the sturdiest watches ever built. I’ve beaten the hell out of mine for over 20 years. To borrow a phrase from another manufacturer, “they take a lickin and keep on tickin.”

One more thing: if a G-shock is your each day watch and you own a dress watch as well, be careful when you wear the dress watch. They aren’t as forgiving as G-shocks. You forget you are wearing them and end up going body surfing or something. It’s happened twice to me while on vacation. I destroyed a Universal Geneve that my wife purchased me in Singapore and almost ruined a Tissot. My wife was not amused.
