The Cartier Story

The name Cartier is synonymous with luxury, quality, and style. Founded in Paris in 1847 by Louis-Francois Cartier, the company became famous international for it is design and production of gorgeous jewelry and opulent objets d’art. A royal commission in 1904 made Cartier a provider to Europe’s Crowned Heads of State and led England’s King Edward VII to describe Louis Cartier, grandson of the founder, as the jeweler of Kings, the King amongst jewellers.

By the early 20th century, Cartier had expanded it is collection to include watches. At a time when pocket watches were still considered de rigueur for the distinguished gentleman, Cartier helped popularize the wristwatch, making it a bold fashion statement for men and women as well as a status symbol amongst the well-to-do. Louis Cartier is credited with creating the introductory men’s wristwatch, the Santos, in 1904. He formulated and named the watch for his client and friend, the Brazilian aviator Alberto Santos-Dumont, who necessitated a device that would grant him to read the time without taking his hands off the controls of his airplane.

Other classic designs followed, including Cartier’s signature timepiece–the Tank–which debuted in 1917 for the duration of the First World War and was inspired by the tough new war machine the Americans introduced to the fighting in Europe. Cartier’s firstborn water-resistant watch was named after the Pasha of Marrakesh, who requested that Cartier manufacture watch that he could wear while in his swimming pool and not lose track of time.

And while it is known more for it is luxurious design, Cartier is likewise credited with creating the highly functional deployment folding clasp in 1910, which is now used by watchmakers around the globe.

Modern Cartier watchmakers still base their watch designs on the early fundamental principle devised by Louis Cartier. Treasured by collectors, Cartier watches are discerned by their impressive potpourri of shapes (round, square, oval, Tank, Tortue and Tonneau), by their special materials and workmanship, and by their recognizable Cartier aesthetic, an refined and tasteful blend of classic and innovative design.

1Only buy from authorized dealer
By H. Allen
I got this watch from Amazon as a gift from my husband a few months ago. Last month, we found that there was a $300-400 problem with the circuitry. Our watch store told us to have the repair fixed beneath the warranty. I called Amazon with the gift receipt in hand but I did not have the precise price so they refused to honor the warranty. I don’t recognise how you may have the precise price if you get the watch as a gift. My husband found his basi receipt but Amazon refused to honor the warranty when he called with all the required information. He just got the run around on line in India for 20 minutes . It is not worth it. Buy from an authorized dealer.

5Great Deal!
By J16
Yes, this is a grey market watch, meaning only that Amazon is not an authorized dealer. It’s also a great price on the real deal (and the serial number wasn’t got rid of in spite of a good deal of commentary regarding this in some of the forums), with all brand new Cartier packaging, etc. You can’t beat the price; this was less even than assorted used Tank Francaises I looked at. If you want to remunerate full price, go ahead, but this is a great deal on the real thing, with an Amazon two year warranty rather of Cartier. That is the ONLY difference. Also fast shipping. I ordered at 6 PM and it was waiting for me in my office the very next morning when I arrived at 9 AM. That’s service!

5Classic Brand — Classic Quality
By Eric Wilkins
The Cartier Tank watch is a general that started out the style of these watches. Beautiful graceful styling that is a perfective gift. In my case it was a graduation gift for my wife who worked very hard at getting a degree as a working adult.
This watch comes with a full making something publicly available box of red leather, as one would suppose from such a premium brand. Even the manual comes in it is own corresponding red leather bound box. The watch is snug in a white kid leather padded box around a pillow of the same material.
