The Casio StoryWith the launch of it is primary watch in November 1974, Casio entered the wristwatch market at a time when the watch industry had just encountered digital technology. As a company with cutting-edge electronic technology formulated for pocket calculators, Casio entered this field convinced that it could fabricate timepieces that would lead the market.

In formulating it is own wristwatches Casio begun with the basic question, “”What is a wristwatch?”" Rather than merely making a digital version of the established mechanical watch, we thought that the idealisti wristwatch ought to be something that shows all facets of time in a consistent way. Based on this, Casio was capable to create a watch that displayed the precise time including the second, minute, hour, day, and month — not to mention a.m. or p.m., and the day of the week. It was the firstborn watch in the world with a digital automatic calendar function that eradicated the need to reset the calendar due the variation in month length. Rather than using a established watch face and hands, a digital liquid crystal display was adopted to better show all the information. This culminated in the 1974 launch of the CASIOTRON, the world’s basi digital watch with automatic calendar. The CASIOTRON won acclaim as a groundbreaking product that represented a finish departure from the traditionalisti wristwatch.

Casio transformed the conception of the watch — from a mere timepiece to an selective information device for the wrist — and undertook product planning based on this progressed idea. We formulated not only time functions such as global time zone watches, but also other radical new functions using Casio’s own digital technology, including calculator and dictionary functions, as well as a phonebook feature based on memory technology, and even a thermometer function using a built-in sensor. The memory-function watches became our DATA BANK product series, while the sensor watches formulated into two distinguishable Casio product lines of today: the Pathfinder series displaying altitude, atmospheric pressure, and compass readings.

In 1983, Casio launched the shock-resistant G-SHOCK watch. This product shattered the notion that a watch is a fragile piece of jewelry that needs to be handled with care, and was the result of Casio engineers taking on the challenge of creating the world’s toughest watch. Using a triple-protection design for the parts, module, and case, the G-SHOCK offered a radical new type of watch that was unaffected by strong impacts or shaking. Its practicality was without delay recognized, and it is distinguishable look, which embodied it is functionality, became wildly popular, resulting in explosive sales in the early 1990s. The G-SHOCK soon adopted respective new sensors, solar-powered radio-controlled technology (described below), and new materials for even better durability. By always employing the latest technology, and continuing to transcend established thinking with regards to the watch, the G-SHOCK brand has become Casio’s flagship timepiece product.

Today, Casio is focusing it is attempts on solar-powered radio-controlled watches: the built-in solar battery does away with the aggravation of replacing batteries, and the radio-controlled function means users never have to reset the time. In particular, the radio-controlled function represents a revolution in time-keeping technology similar to the affect invented when mechanical watches gave way to quartz technology. Through the further development of high radio-wave sensitivity, miniaturization, and bettered energy efficiency, Casio proceeds to manufacture a whole range of radio-controlled models.

5Great for my non-terrorist timekeeping activities!
By Mabuk
As a non-terrorist I find this sits very comfortably on an infidels wrist. I primarily use it as an IET (improvised egg timer), and would heartily commend it to any person (not being occupied by an imperialist banana republic) who wishes to launch a Jihad versus runny eggs. Casio be praised!

5Captured by crazy military, Watch keeps Ticking even when my heart stops.
By Marrz
As a middle eastern hipster it’s easy for me to find old 80′s American and Japanese engineering science at the local bazar. I spied this gem for a pittance of a chicken and HAD to have it. It was better then finding a fixie hauling PBR!! (If I were permitted to drink) No sooner had I strapped my retro classic to my wrist and checked the time that a black hood closed over my head. At initial I hoped it was sarcasm but I was wrong SO WRONG!

I was soon moving in a truck, I could feel sweat beading under the rubber strap of my Casio F91W-1 and knew the timepiece was still attached to my wrist capable to tell me how long I’d traveled. Alas I awoke in a haze, as my hands clenched behind me I could not check the time.
I couldn’t distinguish the pain of the zip tie cuffs from my Casio F91W-1 smooth rubber strap but soon found my new watch dangling before my face as a man screamed “WHY DO YOU OWN THIS WATCH!?!” “To know what time it is I muttered meekly,” I could see it was 1AM, I was missing Adventure Time being broadcast from the United States. “CAN YOU TELL ME WHY 32 OTHER TERRORISTS HERE HAVE THIS SAME WATCH!?!” I searched my brain, 32? That sales man said I had the only one in the country, I wasn’t distinguishable anymore? I was going to need a new watch. “They were all lied to by the salesman as well?” I answered still thinking I was being persecuted as a hipster yet again *le sigh. “A wise guy eh? We have ways of making you talk”

I was reluctantly given my watch back, I was told it was so I’d know which way to pray with my Casio F91W-1′s compass feature but the man didn’t believe that I wasn’t religious but that my outfit was without doubt chosen for irony. Seriously, robes in a desert, how do you not get that?

I soon heard through the grape vine that I’ve be transposed to Cuba, Knowing little of the world from my ageold text books I thought Cuba was still the Monte Carlo of the American corrupt and looked forward to my pleasant tropical extravaganza.

What I underwent in Cuba was more horrid then `The Situation’ attempting to roast a Hummer H2 with Rebecca Black Singing Friday in the Front seat (or back) but in spite of years of intense feelings of suffering and much water exposure my Casio F91W-1 still works keeping the time of my innocence alive.

5Excellent watch — dependable, long lasting — outstanding for nurses
By Blueberry mom
I’ve had this watch over 15 years, close to 20. A long time. I purchased it at Targ*t. I had it in college, nursing school, wore it when I started my firstborn occupation on night shift and it is still going strong. It is a super watch. It is a outstanding watch for nursing. The light works well in dark rooms, the alarm is easy to set, the watch is waterproof for all those hand washings! I also always wore it in the pool- no problems. I think I’ve had to change the battery and band only once. Sturdy, good quality.
